π – An Artwork in Progress in Nörten-Hardenberg

The numbers from 1 to 9 are depicted by color strips . . .

„The colors represent the whole world. The variety of colors is infinite, but we tend to reduce them to a rather small number. On the other hand, by using the main six to eleven basic colors (white, black, red, green, yellow, blue, brown, orange, pink, purple, and gray) we can name most any color and impart our impressions of color to other human beings.“

 1 = red fire, warmth, blood, love, eroticism, passion, rose, cherry, heart, stoplight
 2 = green nature, grass, apple, quietude, lust for life, forest, greenlight
 3 = blue water, cold, ocean, distance, harmony, trust, infinity
 4 = cyan sky, swimming pool, forget-me-not, ocean
 5 = magenta cyclamen, anemone, carnation
 6 = yellow sun, summer, gold, sunflower, moon, wheat, mail
 7 = orange oranges, carrots
 8 = brown Earth, coffee, wood, leather, swamp, dirt, clay, chocolate
 9 = white Snow, cold, paper, laundry, sail, purity

1) Pi as color code on an infinitely long bench

The numbers from 0 to 9 are depicted by color strips of felt woven together.

The color assigment is as follows:

        1    =    red
        2    =    green
        3    =    blue
        4    =    cyan
        5    =    magenta
        6    =    yellow
        7    =    orange
        8    =    brown
        9    =    white
        0    =    black

The colored strips from felt or some other material are ordered by color and by number according to the following scheme:

3, 1 4 1 5 9 2 6 5 3 5
III I IIII I IIIII IIIIIIIII II IIIIII IIIII III IIIII
III I IIII I IIIII IIIIIIIII II IIIIII IIIII III IIIII

        4    =    cyan
        5    =    magenta
        6    =    yellow
        7    =    orange
